Tamborine Fusion
More than anything else, this image is what the team at Garth Chapman Queenslanders strives for…
…Happy, satisfied, and excited clients at handover, and beyond. Observing ‘social distancing’, the official key handover to Brad & Satomi by GCQ Director Stephen Havas.
This is the view and land aspect which inspired our client and designer Kevin Hincksman to collaboratively design this dream home. A beautiful parcel of land in Mount Tamborine with avocado trees in the foreground and stunning evergreen trees as the back drop.
A Hampton’s influenced homestead was part of the client’s brief. Internally their vision was a mix of Hamptons with a Japanese palate in specific locations. Our designer and consultants accepted this challenge and it has come together beautifully to the delight of the client. An example of the fusion is the traditional dark coloured front door that connects to the black interior light fittings, that then speaks confidently to the dark and moody bathrooms. Linking everything together is a gorgeous authentic American Oak timber floor finished in a custom walnut stain.
The Hampton’s influence is captured by using Scyon Linea board cladding with matching trims. Eave brackets placed on a feature dark coloured lower fascia board makes them pop. These features are overlaid with white VJ verandah ceilings and rafters, post molds and capping.
The outside entertaining area is a large tiled space that connects with the kitchen and internal living areas and overlooks the avocado orchard. The verandah wraps around from the front of the home and there is a separate verandah at the rear; all creating the opportunity for a versatile wonderful lifestyle for the owners.
Internally the home is a contemporary fusion of Hamptons influence, overlayed with a modern Japanese palate.
The kitchen, scullery, pantry and living areas are a lighter more traditional colour scheme. These are set off beautifully with the stunning wide board real American Oak timber flooring with a walnut stain.
The formal entry space with 3m high ceilings, French timber doors leading to the study, with the entry door painted black to highlight the clients’ vision.
Our stone masons and cabinetry company have done a sterling job. A sample of their expert craftsmanship is how the stone splashback detail is lined up with the bench top! LED strip lighting in the overhead cupboards lights up the work space. The multiple kitchen bench tops provide a variety of preparation options. There is also a scullery and walk-in-pantry adjoining this space.
The double sided fire place is encased in a beautiful natural stack stone that runs up to the 3.6m ceiling. The clients sourced two lovely recycled timber pieces for their mantle that create a textural link to the American Oak flooring.
There are 3 bathrooms and a powder room that feature a dark tile scheme, concrete bath weighing circa 300kgs, large walk-in showers, and smart lighting to highlight the selections.
The dark Japanese-style bench top basin works beautifully in the Powder Room with the dark minimalist cabinetry and tiled splash back.
The Team
Clients: Brad & Satomi
Designer: Kevin Hincksman (Elan Living Pty Ltd)
Colours & Interiors: Kingsley Interiors
Construction Manager: Trent Benett
Builder: Garth Chapman Queenslanders
Achieving a high end result in terms of design, specification, finishes, detailing, construction management and communication requires a team to work collaboratively and effectively. There are generally a number of stages in the build where the clients work with different team members on various aspects of the build. The design stage draws together years of ideas and dreams into a functioning, detailed and beautiful home. It is a complex task that requires the skills, experience and patience of a designer like Kevin to coordinate all the variables. In the preliminary build stages the client makes selections of fittings and fixtures, colours and cabinetry design, to name a few. Having a dedicated interior designer and a professional group of suppliers and contractors is needed to assist the client to make informed decisions that meld with the overall vision for the home.
The construction phase then manages the process of coordinating all the players and pieces to the jigsaw, into the pictures that you see before you. Coordinating and managing trades, subcontractors, suppliers, site conditions, client expectation, weather and time frames is challenging. Behind the scenes Trent Benett, using his years of experience and expertise, works tirelessly with other team members to achieve the client’s vision.
Thank you Team, especially our clients, for another excellent result.
